Sunshine in Dubuque

Service was super fast and our waitress was great, wish I could give it a higher rating, but... the manager on shift was awful to the staff, even swore at one waitress in front of us. The food was straight out of a frozen box, and the window box next to our booth was quite dirty. Really liked the waitresses, but everything else was disappointing.

Went there for breakfast thinking they would have Covid-19 measures in place like the Sunshine located on JFK. NO!!! They were packing people in like usual like no virus existed! ALL the tables were full, staff not wearing masks. No protective measures what-so-ever. And from what i hear, if you complain to them they say “Then leave, don’t come here”

You let my dad plug in his nebulizer in the restaurant. You’re awesome.

The food and service was great and the southern skillet was really filling (and yes I'm a fairly big guy so...yeah)

I've lived in Dubuque almost my whole life. When ever there was a family gathering, our first place that we picked to go to for breakfast was Sunshine. I definently recommend this diner if you're looking for some old fashioned homemade food. I recommend trying the skillets, for sure!The staff are always nice and polite, and its genuinely my favorite diner in the state.

Good size and prices on food. Good malted pancakes and omelettes.

Omgoodness!!! The place was packed, we sat at the bar. We gave our order and noticed that the pick up counter was full of plates to be gotten and like magic they were cleared off and stacked again. We had our food in no time flat. Refills plenty and smile with all. You could tell who was in charge, but not needing to say a word. The girls all had a place and helped each other out. Amazing Breakfast. This is a must stop for breakfast. Thank you for a memorable meal. ♡♡

Quality, quantity, price, and service were all fine. Very distressed regarding total lack of covid safety precautions.

Friendly service and the food was great. We're from out of state and ate there because of the good reviews .Knew it was a great place to eat when we saw the parking lot was full and it was mostly local people. (We were there on a weekday).Highly recommend to go there.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! Food EXCELLENT! Service EXCEPTIONAL! It is unbelievable how quickly they get your order out. 5 of us travel through for work once a month and this place is a MUST stop! No matter how busy they are they get you in and out in no time. Love, love, love this resteraunt!

Great find in downtown Dubuque! The food was amazing!!! I eat breakfast a lot and this was only the 2nd place to ever get my over medium eggs PERFECT! I mean perfect. The Hillbilly Skillet was divine. We were in town for an event but if/when we come back to Dubuque, we will come back to Sunshine.

I visited the restaurant yesterday for the first time after seeing the good reviews here. The place is clean and organize, but they are not following Covid-19 regulations which we did not like but we stayed for breakfast to give it a break. Food was good, it had flavor and it was hot when it got to the table. Our issue was with service. She brought the food but as soon as she brought it, she brought the bill to. She was paying attention to everyone she was attending, but basically ignoring our table. She brought more coffee to table behind us, but nothing to us. I even had to ask her for more coffee since she saw the empty cup and kept walking. She did the same thing did to my fiancé, he had his cup empty and nothing. In my opinion a restaurant that is worth coming back too are the ones that are clean, have good food and service.We will not go back, especially after the death glare the waitress gave us because we left a low tip for her awesome service.

My family and I really enjoyed the food. Our waitress (Chelsea - I believe) was really nice and helpful.

A very good family owned family restaurant. Casual atmosphere. Breakfast served all day. Large portions with reasonable prices. The quality of food is above average. Management and staff do need CS training but tolerable.

This might be the hardest little cafe to find, but worth the effort! Wonderful home cooking cafe with extremely reasonable prices. Cozy atmosphere; free parking on the north side of the building. Good coffee and free refills.

Once again they have satisfied my breakfast craving for something traditional. Service was good as usual. Been here a time or two...Love that Sunshine feeling whenever I visit. Keep up the good work. Will be back.

Horrible service not one customer or employee practiced safe distancing or wore a mask. Watched staff licking their fingers to pull off your bill tab and count money back. Take out order was wrong, twice. Bland watery coffee. Would have given zero stars if able.

Always eat here My family and I are new residents to Dubuque tried a few other restaurants for breakfast but Sunshine has it hands dwn on Food +, Service +, Cleanliness +, Wait time they’re always on Time lol but very Prompt, but lastly the prices are great!!!

Service was fast. Burgers are mediocre.

This restaurant is not following Covid-19 basics. Walked out because wait staff was not wearing masks and proudly said "not here"! Also were seating people next to each other not following social distancing suggestions. When we left I told the cashier who was standing behind a plexiglass shield why we were leaving, she responded "so don't come here"! We've eaten here before and the food is good but expect open businesses to follow basic guidelines. Ended up eating next door at a McDonald's where even the guy cleaning the parking lot was wearing a mask.

It was really good! Got there midmorning, a group of us,& only waited a few minutes for a table. Good amount of food for the $$! Service was good, and bathrooms were clean! We'll go there again!

Sour hash browns this morning, white with a few black bits in it. Then my lunch, grilled cheese and fries smelled and tasted fishy. I used to like this place. It needs a new owner.

Favorite place in Dubuque for breakfast!

I've only ever eaten breakfast here. They are all very good. Service is top notch.

At the recommendation of the hotel - we stopped in for breakfast - waitress was extremely friendly, food was out in 5 minutes. Extremely large portions and absolutely fabulous. Hubby and one son had Sunrise breakfast with biscuits & gravy, eggs, bacon and sausage; other son had a bacon, egg & cheese croissant with hash browns and the croissant filled over half the plate, was fresh, flakey and buttery. I had the meat lovers skillet with ham, bacon and sausage over scrambled eggs and hash browns with toast. Waitress was very attentive, extremely clean bathrooms and great friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended to anyone passing through. Meal for the four of us was very reasonably priced.

We really enjoyed this place. Great, classic diner atmosphere. Very homey. Great food and good service. Extremely affordable. Highly recommend for a great breakfast spot.

I was visit Dubuque for a work trip and ate breakfast here twice. The food was very affordably priced and really good. I would return here again. the Biscuits & Gravy hit the spot.

I'm disabled and it was very different to navigate through the tables. My food wasn't even warm and when I saw the kitchen the cooks had a lot of food already made on the back stove and was trying to keep it warm. Then my plate with my toast had a hair on it yuck... There was a customer behind me cussing mf this and mf that. The employees didn't seem to mind even through other customers did .Then when I was paying the employee was eating while taking my money while talking with her mouth full. Very rude..

Was glad they are still around and open. First chance of going out to breakfast in some time. The food was excellent and well priced, with the same friendly staff.

It was very fast and good quality delicious food at a low price. It's run by a family and has a great cozy and homely feel about it. Would highly suggest going there

No masks required here. No body cares, I guess. No social distancing at all. Dour waitress. No smile, never. Food was like what I imagine Sysco's generic line to be. Soup out of a can, iceberg lettuce is called a salad, and my tuna fish was the kind that you get out of a convenience store triangle-shaped sandwich pack. Gross.
